More about fireplaces and stoves
Wood Stoves vs. Pellet Stoves
Wood stoves are classic — you load logs, combustion air is partially manual. Authentic fire, no electricity required (with natural-draft operation), low running costs if you have your own wood. Efficiency typically 70–80%, depends on operator experience.
Pellet stoves are modern — sawdust pellets are fed automatically, combustion and air supply are fully automatic. Very high efficiency (85–92%), reliable, app-control on many models, can be paired with room thermostats. Electricity required (ignition, blower), higher purchase cost, storage room needed for pellets. Pellets cost roughly €300–500 per ton (cheaper than heating oil).
For full heating (not just supplementary): pellet stoves are more economical and reliable.
BImSchV II and ECODESIGN Compliance
BImSchV II (German emissions regulation, in force since 2024): max. 2.0 g particulate matter per m³ of exhaust. ECODESIGN 2020/2015 (EU-wide): efficiency ≥ 80% and max. 60 mg/m³ particulate plus NOx limits. All stoves at jacobwarm.com meet both standards.
Sizing and Heat Output
Heat output is measured in kW — typically 4–8 kW for living spaces. Rule of thumb: 0.1 kW per m² living area plus 0.5 kW buffer. A 100 m² single-family home needs a 10–12 kW stove for full heating, or 5–6 kW for supplementary heat. Oversized stoves throttle and lose efficiency; undersized stoves can't carry the heating load.
Installation, Chimney, Requirements
The stove must sit on a non-combustible surface (tile, concrete, natural stone), with at least 1 m clearance on all sides. A working chimney is mandatory — the district chimney sweep must inspect both the chimney before installation and the finished setup after, per BImSchV. Installation must be carried out by a certified installer, not DIY.
Brand Quality
Prity (our main supplier for wood and pellet stoves) — solid quality, fair prices, easy operation, good availability. Bosch — premium build, high finish quality. All units carry CE certificates and BImSchV II compliance certificates.
EU Shipping and Seasonal Tip
Delivery typically 5–7 business days EU-wide. Stoves are heavy (40–150 kg) — shipping costs depend on destination and weight. Order in late summer or early autumn so installation is finished before the cold season; October–March is peak demand. Questions? office@jacobwarm.com or +49 2421 9341061.
